Alendu Primary School

Alendu is a rural primary school that is attended by hundreds of children from the nearby communities. A high proportion are OVC’s. The area is very poor and the school is extremely run down and in desperate need of re-development. Currently the school buildings are made from traditional materials; principally wood and mud and the walls of many classrooms are simply crumbling away. This is incredibly hazardous for the pupils and many classes are taken outside in the shelter of the trees.

Alendu was a new project for KOP in 2009 and we have now helped with the building of new classrooms and a new admin block. KOP also aims to fund the installation of a new fresh water bore hole and an ongoing water management system.

The Kenyan Orphan Project is also working with other partners with an aim to plant a comprehensive range of fruit trees on the site.
