"HOVIC was absolutely amazing the only improvement I can think of is extra time there!" (KOP student, 2011).

KOP has been working with HOVIC (Hope For Victoria’s Children) for many years. HOVIC provides supports for many of the street children in Kisumu. It offers them nutritious meals, educational development, psycho-social and medical help and advice and for many, somewhere safe to sleep at night.

The inner-city module at HOVIC will introduce students to the reality and challenges facing orphaned and vulnerable children living on the streets of Kisumu. You will have the chance to work at HOVIC, meeting the staff and the children and assist with activities related to nutrition, play, social support and education.

There is also an opportunity to visit the night shelter which is used by girls during the day.

You can see a project film from HOVIC on our YouTube channel or by visiting our projects page.

Inner-city Module

"I loved spending time at Hovic! Getting to know the boys was really inspiring and unforgettable. Their openess given their background was endearing and their eagerness to learn really impressed me. I'm so glad the money I raised is going towards helping such deserving children." (KOP student, 2011).

"HOVIC was one of my favourite projects, because it is one where you can make anything you want from it… You are free to guide your time with the children in any direction you desire, be that playing games, talking to the children, teaching them etc. There aren't any obvious available games but you have to be creative. I never felt insecure in the HOVIC environment because there were always staff nearby. Although you can make up your own activities…I know that some of our group were glad to get some fresh air when we went to play football outside on the last day. Some of us also did a home visit to the rural village, which was very interesting." (KOP student, 2011).
