"The feeding centre was an amazing place and my favourite of the projects. I felt like I actually was helping making the feeding centre a nicer place for the children and all the children were amazing and so friendly." (KOP Student 2011).
"A fantastic project. The children were so much fun and very energetic! I was made to feel very welcome by all staff. Again, the project addresses a massive issue of nutrition and it is so encouraging to see its positive effects on the children." (KOP Student 2011).
Many people live outside the centre of Kisumu is rural locations. This module will introduce students to the physical, social and emotional challenges facing orphaned and vulnerable children in a developing rural community.
In particular the programme will explain the concept and framework behind orphan feeding programmes and allow you to actively participate in the activities at our feeding centres.
Activities will include spending time with staff and children at the centres. You will be involved in maintenance and painting of the centres, preparation and provision of meals to the many children that attend the centre. There may be opportunities to teach the older children about health related topics and in the afternoons there will be time to play and interact with the children.
This is always a hugely popular module, giving you the chance to interact and play with the children at the feeding centres. Whether it’s bubbles, musical bumps, 'duck, duck, goose' or you turning into a climbing frame, the opportunity to get to know the children your fundraising is directly helping is incredibly rewarding.
